Museum of Anthropology - and Moana

Oh My Gosh! Today I just went back to NZ - I'm just joking. I went to the Museum of Anthropology and the exhibits looked so similar to Maori art that I felt at home.
The MOA is a museum you can go to - that your country may have too - to learn about the history of the people in your country and even some countries close by.
I saw a big statue of some kind of dog or bear. It was quite huge. Beside the bear was a big totem pole that nearly reached up to the ceiling and the ceiling was very tall.
Some other cultures there were Samoan, Fijian, Japanese, Chinese and also some artwork from New Zealand. Mostly there was lots of art from native Canadians. My favourite culture was the native Canadians because they have to live around snow (close to Santa's house at the North Pole) and their art and designs looked like Maori art that I see at home.

After the museum we went to go and see the new release movie - Moana. Moana is the story of Manaiakalani and the voyagers who traveled by following the stars. I really liked Moana and it is now my favourite Disney movie.

It was kind of a relaxing day. I didn't write yesterday because I was relaxing on the couch watching movies :-)

Boxing Day Cricket

On Boxing Day it snowed and snowed! So my mum thought we should go and play snow cricket. How do you play snow cricket? It is just like normal cricket except you play in the snow and you don't use a real ball but snowballs. When you hit the snowballs, they collapse and went in to our face.
It was my first time ever seeing snow fall out of the sky - since Auckland, NZ is just too hot for snow.

You just couldn't imagine how much it snowed. It snowed and snowed for more than two hours. The snowflakes were very delicate.

After a while it started to rain and the snow disintegrated and turned into sludge. Since snow can be a bit annoying (but also playful) sometimes you have to shovel it up so that it won't get in people's way or turn into sludge. So people buy salt from the store and they sprinkle it where the sludge was to stop ice appearing the next morning.

But luckily our winter wonderland came back later in the day with the beautiful majestic snowflakes.

On Christmas morning my uncle just would not wake up! So I had to stomp by his bedroom. My Aunty said to my Uncle "What is that stomping?" and my uncle said "I think that is an 8 year old trying to wake us up so she can open her stocking."
So eventually he woke up. I was going to wake him up with a very funny song, but I thought I should be nice because it is Christmas.
Once he was awake and downstairs we opened the pets' stockings. They got pet toys and treats. Then it was time for me to open my one.

My stocking had a big lollipop - my favourite thing. Two Toblerones, two Crunchies, two books, socks and undies and also a note pad. I may have gotten one thing more, but I can't remember. But I do love my giant lollipop I was eating it all day on Christmas day.
For breakfast we had pancakes with maple syrup. Canada is known for its maple syrup so it was very very yummy.
After breakfast we had to wait for my uncle again. He was cleaning the kitchen and wouldn't let anyone help him. Once he was finished his jobs we got to open presents that were under the tree.
One of my favourite presents was from my mum. My mum gave me the best present ever. It was tickets to go to Legoland for one day and to stay one night in the Lego Friends hotel. Another favourite present was my unicorn slippers. They light up when you stand on them - but you do have to turn them on first. They are very comfortable.
One of my other favourite presents was my Lego watch. It came with a minifigure called Stephanie. The watch isn't made out of Lego even though it looks like it.

My last favourite present were my Star Wars pajamas - inf act I am wearing them right now while writing this story. I got my pajamas from my cat Skipo. You have heard about her in some of my other stories.

Thank you to everyone for all my lovely presents that I am very grateful for.

In the afternoon we went to watch Star Wars. My mum joked that I should wear my t Wars pajamas - but I didn't. We watched the new Star Wars movie and I kinda liked it. I'm not a big fan of Star Wars.

For dinner my Aunty - who is a great cook - made a beautiful turkey that was soooooo yummy.

Merry Christmas to our whanau in NZ and everyone that is reading my story.

Christmas Eve

On Saturday it was Christmas Eve. When I woke up in the morning I had to get ready to have an amazing day of adventures. First we went to my Uncle and Aunty's work. I learnt lots of cool stuff like looking into animals' eyes and looking at how my uncle x-rays animals. My Uncle is a Veterinary Surgeon and my Aunty is a Veterinary Ophthalmologist (which means she looks after eyes). They both have really cool jobs. We had never seen their work before because last time we came we were too busy.

After that we went out to lunch to a burger restaurant and they had a really yummy cheese toastie so I thought I would have that - it was very yummy.

That evening we went to go and see these very cool lights. It was called Enchant. There was a cool maze made out of lights and you had to help Santa find all his reindeer as the reindeer had been lost during a storm at the North Pole. I found all the reindeer but I did lose my Aunty and Uncle and my Aunty's parents!
The maze was very very cool it had a Christmas tree in the middle of the maze. If you went east there was a giant star made out of lights on the ground! While we were looking it was pretty easy to see the reindeer as they were made out of lights and were HUGE! We got a stamp each time we found a new reindeer. There was no prize, but seeing the amazing lights and having fun was the prize.
After finding the reindeer we went to visit Santa. I think that Santa was one of Santa's helpers as the real Santa was working hard delivering presents back home.

When we got home I had forgotten we still had to have dinner. Aunty Christina made a really yummy dinner of Swedish meatballs and pavlova. I then went to sleep to wait for Santa and I hoped that the next day would be another amazing Christmas.

The Aquarium

Today I went to the Vancouver Aquarium which is filled with lots of amazing animals and exhibits.  The things that we went to see were the cool jellyfish, the snappy sharks, the sliding snakes, the dancing dolphins, the slimy stingrays and the magic macaws.

My favourite thing by far was touching the stingrays. You would think that stingrays were pretty rough - that's what I thought, but they are really slimy. When you touch the stingray you have to use two fingers and only touch them in the middle of their body. The thing that scared me about the stingray is that I would get stung and not have a happy rest of my holiday in Vancouver. But it was good that I didn't get stung.

Another thing that I liked were the dolphins. The dolphins were on of my favourite things because we went to see their show, It was freezing outside but I didn't care as I was going to see Helen and Chester the dolphins - and the funny thing is my mum's name is Helen! The dolphins jumped and leaped, just like last time I was in Vancouver and I saw the dolphins leap in the aquarium.

The snake - I was terrified when I first saw it as we do not have snakes where I live. This snake was humungous. It was so big and fat that I didn't know how long it was. Even if I had seen how long it was, I was too terrified to even read the words that would have told me.

I had a sensational Christmas Eve Eve in Vancouver.

PS: If you're in NZ it is really Christmas Eve

Vancouver Science Museum

I love science so that is why we went to the super Science Museum. The Science Museum is shaped like a sphere. The bottom is basically most of the museum but the top two levels are inside the sphere and that is where the iMax cinema and a green house garden are.

The museum has two floors. We went to the second floor first. It has a kids area where can play with water, light and sound.
The water had all different kinds of activities inside a big trough. There was even a water slide - but people can't go down it. A gun would shoot plastic balls on to a target that was up really high. Then the ball would go down the water slide and through the troughs. This activity taught us about how water flows using gravity. We were able to build a dam out of blocks and direct the water through water wheels.
One of the activities using light was the shadow room. In the shadow room you go inside and stand against a special kind of wall. A light then flashes for half a second and it leaves behind a print of your shadow on the special wall.
The last type of activity used sound. There were lots of coloured lights on the ground that we could stand on that would make different sounds that came out of speakers above you. There were also fake instruments and tubes that played sounds depending on how you touched them.

This museum taught me about physics, chemistry and having fun.

That was another great day in Vancouver. - even though it rained ice and was freeeeeezing!

Granville Island

I've been to Granville Island before, but that was 3 years ago so I had almost forgotten all about it. Today I went to Granville Island again.
Winter Time

Granville Island has so many cool shops, it even has a kid's market with so many toys.
Summer Time
There is a water park at Granville Island. We went last time I was here 3.5years ago in the summer. Today however, it is December so it is snowing in the northern hemisphere and it was cool to see the park covered in snow and the sunshine reflecting on the frozen water. It was so freezing that water wouldn't even come out of the drinking tap.

No one lives on Granville Island, but like I said before there are lots and lots of shops. Mostly the shops are yummy yummy food. For lunch I had a hot dog and an icecream. Even though it was freezing outisde I still had an ice cream because i just love ice cream.

But the best part was looking at the view of the harbour and the city while I ate my hot dog.

I had an amazing second day in Vancouver.

First Day in Vancouver

Would you believe that I am in Vancouver? I am here because it is Christmas and my uncle lives here.
Today I have been celebrating my Aunty's birthday. We have been ice skating, having amazing crepes, visiting a Christmas fair, playing in the snow and having a delicious dinner at a fancy restaurant;

There is snow in Vancouver but unfortunately it is not snowing now. I am crossing my fingers that it snows again on Christmas day. This was my first time seeing snow in my whole entire life! It has been so fun looking at the snow while in the city. But more fun playing in the snow at my Uncle and Aunty's house. I just built my first snowman yesterday with mum. It was heaps of fun but pretty dark at only 5pm.

At the Christmas Fair there was a giant Snow Globe that we could play in with fake snow. The fake snow got all through my hair and down my back.

At the fancy restaurant for dinner I had two mini cheeseburgers with a caesar salad and a coke. For dessert we had a birthday cake for my aunty. The birthday cake was layered with chocolate, icing and cake. On the side there was a big shard of dark chocolate and ice cream with strawberries.

I had an amazing first day in Vancouver.
